The printed kit: rulebook, hero sheets, adventure booklet, dice and pencils in a pile

What's in the box (the box is a ZIP of PDFs)

The Rulebook cover

The Rulebook.

Every rule in the game, written for a grown-up who's never done this. Thirteen short sections and a quick-reference card.

A stack of printed hero sheets

Seven hero sheets.

One page each, ready to print. Everything a kid needs is on the sheet.

The How to Play page

How to Play.

Print it on the back of every hero sheet, and the answer to almost any rules question is already in the kid's hands. No printer that does double-sided? Put one copy in the middle of the table.

Adventure 01 cover: Fluffington the cat above a well

Adventure 01: The Cat in the Well.

Old Mrs. Pockle's cat chased something down the broken well behind the bakery and hasn't come back. Go down and bring him home. Zero prep: skim the setup and play tonight.

The Starter Bestiary cover

The Starter Bestiary.

Thirteen monsters with everything you need to run them, six ready-made fights, and a blank card for writing your own.

Already have the Starter Kit? Just take the part you need.

Nothing down here is new material. The two books are the same ones inside the Starter Kit. They're separate downloads so that when one gets an update, you can take just that one instead of the whole box again. The two sheet packs are the same seven hero sheets, arranged two ways so you can pick whichever your printer likes.

Nothing to work out if you're new. The Starter Kit above has all of it.

Hero sheets — single-sided v1.0 · 3 MB

The seven sheets, then one How to Play for the middle of the table. For a printer that doesn't do double-sided. This is how the Starter Kit arranges them.

Each book prints its version on its title page, so you can check what's already on your shelf before you download anything.

What you need that isn't in the kit

  • One set of “RPG dice”. A few dollars online or at any game store. Ask for a seven-dice set (sometimes labeled “polyhedral dice”): it has dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20 sides, and that covers every roll in this game. The 20-sided one does most of the work, so a spare or two is handy at a bigger table. A free dice-roller app works fine too.
  • Pencils. The chewed ones in the kitchen drawer are fine.
  • A printer. Sheets print on regular letter paper, one page each.
  • 3 to 5 kids and one grown-up (or a confident older kid) to run the game.

Make the heroes yours. Every hero has six illustrations to choose from. Pick the one that fits your table and print a fresh sheet.
