Privacy

Brave and Bonkers is a game for kids, and this site is built the way we'd want a kids' site built: you can take the whole game without telling us anything about yourself.

The short version. There is no account to make, and nothing here tracks you. We set no cookies of our own, and every download is a plain file: no email required and no form in the way.

The only personal thing we ever ask for is an email address, only if you choose to join the mailing list, and only so we can email you.

What we collect

An email address, if you give us one. There is exactly one thing you can type into this site: your email, on the mailing-list form. It's a single field. We don't ask for your name, your child's name, their age, or anything else. We use it to send occasional notes about new adventures and new heroes, and for nothing else.

Nothing else is collected. Downloading the Starter Kit, the books, the hero sheets or an adventure asks nothing of you at all. Neither does the sheet customizer.

What your browser stores

The hero-sheet customizer remembers which hero and which illustration you last picked, so the page can greet you where you left off. That's kept in your own browser's local storage, on your own device, and is never sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data removes it. Nothing else is stored, and this site sets no cookies of its own.

Who else is involved

Two companies, and it's only fair to name them:

  • Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, its servers see the requests your browser makes, including your IP address. Cloudflare also counts visits for us. Its Web Analytics script is added to each page by the server and loads from static.cloudflareinsights.com. It sets no cookie and does not fingerprint your browser or your device. What comes back to us is a tally of page views and referrers with nothing in it that identifies you.
  • MailerLite runs the mailing list. If you submit the form, your address goes to them and is stored there so we can send the emails. If you never submit it, they never hear from you.

No one else is involved. Everything else a page needs (the type it is set in, the pictures, the downloads) comes from this site, so loading a page here contacts nobody but Cloudflare.

What we don't do

  • No tracking analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel and no session recorder. The Cloudflare visit count named above is the whole of what we measure. It is cookieless, and it cannot follow you to another site.
  • No advertising trackers, and the site explicitly opts out of interest-based ad cohorts at the server level.
  • No selling or sharing of your email address, to anyone, for any reason.
  • No accounts, so there's no password of yours for us to lose.

Children

The game is for children; this website is written for the grown-up doing the printing. We don't knowingly collect anything from a child, and the mailing list is meant for adults, so please don't sign a child up for it. If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to us and we'll delete it.

Changing your mind

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and using it removes you from the list. You can also ask us directly: write to the address below and we'll delete your email address and tell you when it's done. You don't have to give a reason.

Asking us about any of this

[email protected]. A human reads this inbox, and privacy questions get a real answer rather than a form letter.
